This is the Mont des Cats brewery inaugurating the route of the St. Bernardus brewery. Indeed, the monks of the Abbey of Mont des Cats created in the early twentieth century the refuge of Our Lady of Saint Bernardus are fabricated in Belgium and their famous cheese. The cheese was then sold by the French monks in 1934 in which Mr. Evariste Deconinck cheese marketed as St. Bernardus Watou.

After the Second World War, the Trappist Westvleteren Abbey sold its beer license to the cheese, which becomes St. Bernardus Brewery. Saint Sixtus beer is then developed and commercialized.

In 1992, The Abbey of Saint Sixtus took over the license of its beers. Since the St. Bernardus brewery brews beer the same as the St. Bernardus.
